After seven weeks of rehearsals, the Berlin Youth Theatre presented its first musical “Willy Wonka Junior” at the McGee Middle School in Berlin on Saturday, June 25.
“I’ve been working with the Meriden Youth Theater for a while, but this is the first performance for Berlin, so it’s very exciting,” said Carolyn Daniels, Arts Academy Director for the Meriden YMCA.
"By joining together, we can serve more people."

The children of the Little Spartans program got to meet K9 Kilo and Officer Jason Degumbia as part of their career week.
The program, run through the Meriden YMCA at Maloney High School, involves children ages three to five years old, teacher Kristen Erdos said. The class is participating in a career week, hearing from paramedics, firefighters, solar energy specialists and more. Degumbia stopped by the class on Thursday to demonstrate his job with K9 Kilo. Erdos and the other teachers, Heather Coitrone and Luz Diaz, prepared the students by reading them stories about police and asking questions.
“It gets them familiar with community helpers so they are not afraid,” Erdos said.
The third time was the charm for the Meriden YMCA’s “Charity Motorcycle & Classic Car Poker Run & BBQ” at the Mountain Mist Outdoor Center and Day Camp on Saturday.
After two previous years of being canceled due to rain, this year’s event took off with the roar of motorcycles echoing against the mountains.
“One hundred percent of the proceeds goes to provide services for the kids,” said Carrie Marquardt, Health and Wellness Director of the Meriden YMCA.
Meriden YMCA Youth Theater performs King and I this weekend with shows Friday through Sunday at Thomas Edison Middle School.

Prompted by growing membership numbers, the Meriden YMCA is seeking to build another pavilion at its Mountain Mist Outdoor Center.
Our first place winner Jen Mandac lost 9.5 percent, our second place winner Mike Molinski lost 9.1 percent and third place winner Laura Hernandez lost 8.0 percent.
Collectively all of our participants lost 150 pounds. Sign up now for the next challenge which begins Wednesday, Jan. 27. The program includes nutrition, group personal training, prizes.
