Meriden YMCA’s Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner helps local families have a brighter holiday
On Thanksgiving Day the Meriden YMCA will hold our Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for our neighbors. Each year volunteers come together to serve delicious holiday meals with all of the trimmings to families who attend the dinner in the gymnasium, and deliver meals to the home bound. After families enjoy their meal they can shop in our “pantry” of nonperishable food items to take with them. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. for the dinner. Donations of turkeys and nonperishable food items are welcome. Please contact Carmen at 203-235-6386 x15 if you would like to donate or volunteer or if you are home bound and need a holiday meal delivered to your door. Thank you to all of our volunteers and donors for your generosity.
Fun at Chamber Health & Wellness Expo
The Meriden YMCA participated in the 2014 MidState Chamber Health & Wellness Expo where we shared information on Meriden YMCA family membership special offers, provided chair yoga and CrossFit Kids demos, and competed in the Healthy Body Brain Business Challenge.
Our team of Andy DeJesus, Katie Langan, Amy Fitzgerald, and Manny Medrano, along with seven other teams from local businesses, raced through the mall zip tied together while completing a series of fun games. The Meriden YMCA team won.

Camping under the stars with Mountain Mist
As Thursday evening wore on at the YMCA’s Mountain Mist Day Camp campgrounds, piles of sleeping bags grew steadily, while the smell of grilling food and the buzz of excitement filled the air.
Campers, ranging from 6- to 14-years old, reunited with friends, played carnival games and dove into snow-cones in anticipation of Thursday’s overnight camping session.
The second of the year, the overnight camping program is one of the most anticipated of each two-week sessions

Join us for this new collaborative program by Gallery 53 and the Meriden YMCA. Through creative innovative art activities, participants will explore how to integrate mindful practice techniques to enhance their daily lives. Explore your skills in a fun-filled relaxing environment while learning ways of coping with feelings and developing skills for personal insight.
Students will create art for the Meriden YMCA Arts Center walls by creating murals and stained glass mosaics.
Gov. Malloy announces preschool opportunities in Meriden
Governor Malloy visits the Meriden YMCA Martin Gaffey Child Care Center and announces an additional 1,020 preschool opportunities will become available for low-income families across the state. Of those openings, 35 have been approved in Meriden.

Gov. Malloy visited the Meriden YMCA Martin Gaffey Child Care Center and announced the allocation of preschool slots. Meriden will be allocated 35 more with 30 placed at the Meriden YMCA.
Governor Malloy announces 1,000 more PreK slots.
More than a thousand more kids will be eligible for PreK this fall. It’s part of an expansion just signed into law by the governor.
