There are probably as many different day camps as there are different kinds of kids, so one-size-fits all day camps no longer exist. Like children, camps also have their own unique personalities.
Day camp should offer a pleasant summer experience of activity, learning, growth; and most of all, fun.

On February 19th the kids and camp staff came out to play at the Meriden YMCA gymnasium to get in the summer camp spirit with our favorite camp games. The gymnasium was filled with happy past and future campers playing Star Wars Dodgeball, Shipwrecked, Four Square, Basketball and more.
MERIDEN — Olympic swim medalists Kim Vandenberg and Jason Lezak made a splash at the YMCA Sunday, sharing training tips with 105 swimmers from the statewide Yankee Cluster Swim League.
The Olympians began with a dry-land presentation to swimmers and parents. The swimmers, ranging from seven to 10 years old, made waves of their own with a mass entry into the YMCA pool, with parents lining the pool deck.

The Meriden YMCA rolled out two new bounce houses to entertain children in the vacation week program. The new houses were in full use Tuesday and will be open again on New Year’s Day for Y members and non-members from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Meriden YMCA is looking for Red Cross certified lifeguards for part time positions at our indoor pool.
Families poured downtown to partake in hayrides, face painting, and Santa-sighting during the 4th annual Downtown Holiday Extravaganza hosted by the YMCA on Saturday.

On Thanksgiving Day the Meriden YMCA will hold our Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for our neighbors. Each year volunteers come together to serve delicious holiday meals with all of the trimmings to families who attend the dinner in the gymnasium, and deliver meals to the home bound. After families enjoy their meal they can shop in our “pantry” of nonperishable food items to take with them. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. for the dinner. Donations of turkeys and nonperishable food items are welcome. Please contact Carmen at 203-235-6386 x15 if you would like to donate or volunteer or if you are home bound and need a holiday meal delivered to your door. The Meriden YMCA participated in the 2014 MidState Chamber Health & Wellness Expo where we shared information on Meriden YMCA family membership special offers, provided chair yoga and CrossFit Kids demos, and competed in the Healthy Body Brain Business Challenge.
Our team of Andy DeJesus, Katie Langan, Amy Fitzgerald, and Manny Medrano, along with seven other teams from local businesses, raced through the mall zip tied together while completing a series of fun games. The Meriden YMCA team won.

As Thursday evening wore on at the YMCA’s Mountain Mist Day Camp campgrounds, piles of sleeping bags grew steadily, while the smell of grilling food and the buzz of excitement filled the air.
Campers, ranging from 6- to 14-years old, reunited with friends, played carnival games and dove into snow-cones in anticipation of Thursday’s overnight camping session.
The second of the year, the overnight camping program is one of the most anticipated of each two-week sessions
