Congratulations to the winners of our latest Biggest Winner Weight Loss Challenge - Krista, Julianne (Jules), and Phylis! Great job by all of the participants who lost over 250 pounds! Slim down for summer with our next challenge which starts April 30th.
The Meriden YMCA Little Rascals program had some very special guests during Dr. Seuss Week. Parents came to read with their children. The children were so proud and happy to have them visit and read to the class with them. To learn about their programs call Tina at (203) 630-0039.
On Friday, March 7, the Meriden YMCA Club Y Friday night program had a Dodgeball Tournament. There was fierce competition and some really amazing moves. One player, Zach, was the last man standing on his team in two games and nearly won against four players on the opposing team. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone for coming to play.

As an expansion of its extended-day programming that was aimed at getting families involved in their children’s learning, John Barry School hosted a science, technology, engineering, and math, or STEM Exploration night Wednesday.
About 350 people turned out for the event, which featured hands-on activities based on STEM learning, and facilitated by the Meriden YMCA.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, CrossFit Meriden hosted the “Down With the King (of the lions) Team Throwdown Challenge”. Teams of men and women competed in three workouts of the day. New Group Exercises classes are coming!
Try a free CrossFit class any Saturday at 8 a.m. at CrossFit Meriden at 88 State Street. Preregistration required.
Players in the Archers boys and girls basketball teams practice and compete together, but not all are enrolled in MidState Christian Academy which runs the teams...To play on MidState’s team, students have to become members of the YMCA and buy uniforms. Smith said the Y has been a good partner to the school and allows them complete use of the gym for an hour on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The team also schedules games there.
“This is our home court,” Smith said at his team’s practice on Tuesday. Players ran drills together and then broke into boys and girls teams to scrimmage on the half courts.
The boys team has won both of its two latest games, Russ said, and while he enjoys a win he’s also trying to show his players how to lose with grace.“It’s about sportsmanship and character,” he said.
All afternoon and evening classes and programs cancelled due to weather.
