Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA Committed to Serving ALL During Autism Awareness Month

The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA is committed to providing opportunities for ALL to grow, learn and thrive. With Autism Awareness Month taking place in April, the Y wants to share two adaptive programs available to the community.

Social Engagement Program at the YMCA

This program is for students in grades four through nine with autism spectrum disorders to participate in fun, engaging activities within the community. Activities will include a kickoff night, arts and crafts, game nights, sports and fitness, and pool party. The program will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at the Meriden YMCA. The Southern Connecticut State University Center for Excellence for Teaching and Learning will provide staff training. This program is a collaboration between SCSU, the YMCA and the Berlin and Meriden school districts. Call 203.235.6386 for more information.

Mountain Mist Adaptive Camp

This program is designed for children with developmental disabilities, active IEPs, 504s. Participants will receive individual attention, with a one-to-one aide throughout the day, to continue current plans. Participants will also be integrated into the camp programming with peers their own age and participate in daily camp activities. Visit our website for more information.

“Our adaptive programming at the Y has been developed to ensure inclusiveness and increase understanding. These programs are sure to create a special and fun experience for all participants involved” said John Benigni, CEO.
