Meriden Summer Youth Employment Program Receives $10,000 Grant from the Liberty Bank Foundation
he Meriden–New Britain–Berlin YMCA thanks the Liberty Bank Foundation for their $10,000 grant to help support the Meriden Summer Youth Employment Program. Lisa Logodocio, Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of the Meriden branch of Liberty Bank, presented the check to Tammy Valk, Human Resources Director, and Allyson Miller, HR/Onboarding Coordinator at the Meriden–New Britain–Berlin YMCA.
The Meriden Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is for Meriden residents attending Meriden public schools, ages 14-24. Participants in the program work for 4 to 6 weeks for nonprofit agencies, government offices and local businesses. The Meriden YMCA has administered the program since 2018 and matched over 488 individuals with opportunities in participating organizations.
The SYEP program provides Meriden youth with their first job to help them learn valuable employment skills. Some have used this opportunity as a stepping stone for their careers. They started in child care, went to school to earn their certification, and are now child care teachers. The SYEP program also provides lifeguard certification and CPR/First Aid classes.
The SYEP program is funded through grants from Workforce Alliance, Liberty Bank Foundation, CUNO Foundation, and the Meriden Foundation. We thank all of the funders and participating organizations for helping create bright futures for local youth.
