Meriden Y, schools offer fan bus to Platt students

By Kimberly Primicerio | MERIDEN — The Meriden YMCA and city’s public schools are teaming up to bring a fan bus back to the high schools, a response to violent activity in the city over the past few months. The bus will be available at Platt High School for this week’s football game at Berlin High School. The first 50 Platt students to hand in a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian will take the school bus to and from the game. Students will receive a $5 concession stand voucher and will participate in raffles on the bus.

By Russell Blair, Record-Journal MERIDEN — With miniature rackets and miniature nets, 13 children from 5 to 10 years old were introduced the sport and art of tennis Thursday morning at Washington Park. The Meriden YMCA received a grant from the United States Tennis Association to host a 10-and-under tennis camp this week. Maureen DiPace, a Platt High School math teacher and former Platt tennis coach, said the new program is a way to introduce the sport to younger children.
